Q&A
- 1. What is the Sloth & Kayak Tour? This is the original Sloth & Kayak experience in Punta Uva, created and led by local naturalist guides from Caribe Sur. The tour combines peaceful kayaking through a calm jungle estuary with wildlife observation, including sloths, monkeys, turtles, and many tropical birds.
- 2. How long does the tour last? The total experience lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours, including a short safety briefing, the guided kayak journey, and a short walk of about one hour that takes you to several viewpoints and hidden forest trails where we often find even more sloths and wildlife. The viewpoint is one of the most beautiful spots in Punta Uva, with a panoramic view of the Caribbean coast. The more questions you have during the experience, the longer the tour becomes — we love when guests are curious and want to learn more about the nature and history of this place.
- 3. What time does the tour start? Tours start at 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. If you prefer an earlier time, send us a WhatsApp message and we can coordinate a private tour with an earlier start.
- 4. Where do we meet? You’ll meet at Punta Uva Beach, near the entrance to Pacho’s Place Kayak and Surfing. After your booking has been confirmed, you’ll receive a Google Maps link and clear directions through WhatsApp or email.
- 5. Do I need kayaking experience? No experience is necessary. The water is calm, and we go at a relaxed pace to enjoy the river, spot more wildlife, and learn about the local culture and ecosystem. Your guide will help you at all times, making it perfect for beginners and families.
- 6. What should I bring? Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a little wet. Sandals or water shoes are ideal. You’ll be provided with a dry bag for personal items like keys, wallet, phone, and camera. And most importantly, bring a good attitude — curiosity and good vibes always make the experience even better.
- 7. Will I definitely see sloths? The chances of seeing sloths are extremely high. On almost every tour, we see several — often more than five. Some are closer than others, but sightings are very consistent. Because our guides grew up exploring this area, they know exactly where to look and how to spot them. You’ll also learn which trees sloths prefer and how to identify their favorite habitats, so by the end of the tour you’ll know how to find them on your own anywhere in the Caribbean.
- 8. Is transportation included? Transportation is not included by default, but we can help arrange it from your hotel in Puerto Viejo, Cocles, Cahuita, or Manzanillo for an additional cost. Sometimes, if we are not too busy, we can offer free transportation, but please ask in advance so we can confirm availability.
- 9. What happens if it rains? Light rain is common and can make the forest even more beautiful. If the weather is unsafe or visibility is too low, we will reschedule or offer a refund if that is the only time you are available.
- 10. How do I book? You can book directly through our website, send us a message on WhatsApp, or reach out through our Contact Us page to communicate by email. Chat with us on WhatsApp
