How to Get to Punta Uva

Punta Uva is made up of two stunning beaches: Playa Punta Uva and Playa Arrecife. Here’s how to reach both:

  • Playa Punta Uva: Head 8 km south of Puerto Viejo toward Manzanillo. When you see Super Punta Uva, take the gravel road directly across from it. Follow it to the end, and you’ll arrive at one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.
  • Playa Arrecife: Located 100 meters south of Super Punta Uva, this long, picturesque beach is accessible via another gravel path. It’s a perfect spot for a peaceful swim or a relaxing beach day.

Top Things to Do in Punta Uva

1. Hike to the Punta Uva Viewpoint

For a breathtaking panoramic view, hike to the Punta Uva viewpoint. Start at Playa Punta Uva and walk toward the cape. You’ll find a small trail leading uphill—follow it, and in just a few minutes, you’ll be rewarded with an incredible view of the Caribbean coastline.

📌 Tip: The trail is short and easy, but the ground can be slippery, so watch your step!

2. Visit the Hidden Cave

Punta Uva has a small sea cave carved into the rocky cape, creating a beautiful hidden tunnel where light and seawater flow through. To find it:

  • Follow the same trail to the viewpoint.
  • About 20 meters before the viewpoint, take the left path and descend carefully.

⚠️ Be cautious—the descent can be steep and slippery. Also, be mindful of coral, sea urchins, and waves.

3. Explore the Estuary by Kayak

On the Playa Punta Uva side, you’ll find a tranquil estuary surrounded by lush jungle. The best way to explore it is by kayak or paddleboard.

  • Glide through calm waters while spotting sloths, monkeys, toucans, river turtles, and tropical birds.
